چکیده
Abstract The spectral characteristics viz. reflectivity, bandwidth, and sidelobes’ intensity for uniform apodized (Gaussian, hyperbolic tangent, apod1, sine, raised sine) fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) were studied as a function of grating length index modulation. optimal modulation to obtain maximum reflectivity minimum sidelobes determined, needed sensing applications. impact various apodization profiles on the response has also been assessed. results indicate that out considered study, Gaussian, sine offer desired output. Article highlights (of main peak) increase with bandwidth decreases increases ideal found be 5 mm 0.0008 respectively sidelobes. Sine, are best suitable among those considered.

Surface-relief fiber Bragg gratings for sensing applications.
We present a new type of fiber Bragg grating (FBG) in which we etch the grating into the flat surface of a D-shaped optical fiber. Instead of being written in the core of the fiber, as are standard FBGs, these surface-relief FBGs are placed in the cladding above the core. These gratings are a viable alternative to standard FBGs for sensing applications. We describe the fabrication process for e...
متن کاملTime Response Parameters of Fiber Bragg Gratings
We report on experimental results related to the time response of Fiber Bragg Gratings. From the experimental data it is possible to retrieve important parameters such as the response delay and the grating switching time, which are properties of relevance for understanding the operation of fast tuning devices.
متن کاملMicrofiber-Based Bragg Gratings for Sensing Applications: A Review
Microfiber-based Bragg gratings (MFBGs) are an emerging concept in ultra-small optical fiber sensors. They have attracted great attention among researchers in the fiber sensing area because of their large evanescent field and compactness. In this review, the basic techniques for the fabrication of MFBGs are introduced first. Then, the sensing properties and applications of MFBGs are discussed, ...
متن کاملSimultaneous Temperature and Strain Sensing for Cryogenic Applications Using Dual-Wavelength Fiber Bragg Gratings
A new technique has been developed for sensing both temperature and strain simultaneously by using dual-wavelength fiber-optic Bragg gratings. Two Bragg gratings with different wavelengths were inscribed at the same location in an optical fiber to form a sensor. By measuring the wavelength shifts that resulted from the fiber being subjected to different temperatures and strains, the wavelength-...
متن کاملChirped in-fiber Bragg gratings for compensation
It is well known that chirped (aperiodic) refractiveindex Bragg gratings can be used for compensating for the dispersion of optical fiber waveguides.' When used in reflection mode (in contrast to transmission mode), such Bragg gratings exhibit large dispersion. As well, the sign of the dispersion in reflection mode is easily controlled. Together these two characteristics suggest the use of chir...
